Pipe - Bass

 Pipe

Being a lifelong biker, Pipe has always had an interest in live bands. It started at the age of 15, when he was influenced by the Irish genius Rory Gallagher. Becoming interested in the thought of playing the bass he ran out and bought one and promptly wore the strings thin and, jamming with his brother Ham (drummer), they started a rock band called Brute Force. Pipe was asked to join the Lonesome Blues Band on the blues circuit, and played with them for a while, whilst also with a funk rock band called Groovedriver. Pipe’s solid but musical playing style now has been influenced by these different styles he has played in the past.

Pipe first came across Andy Pennington when they both joined Insanity Beach in the mid-90s. They later went on to form a blues rock band called 2 Tyred. Through one thing and another, they ended up joining up with Rob and a drummer Gary Parsons to form the second incarnation of Doghouse. Through injury, Pipe was forced to leave the band but, after about a year, he started a band with Gary Parsons again with a local guitar player / singer Lee Griffiths - the powerful three piece rock band 2nd Bite. The band folded and, after a short break from playing, Pipe heard that Doghouse needed a bass player. It seemed to make sense. He gave us a nod, we gave him a nod, and Pipe was in Doghouse again!!

Pipe has always been a man of few moves, and feels almost naked on stage without something to rest his left (or right, depending on which side of the stage he’s on...) boot on! Hence, he is now known as “the man who doesn’t move”... except when he’s on two wheels!!

Pipe’s interest in bikes has led him to become a factory trained Harley Davidson technician who has worked at Centurion Harley Davidson in Chester, Manchester HD in Stockport, and he’s currently working at a recently opened independent Harley specialist John Wynne Automotive in Bromborough. Check them out at www.jwautomotive.net.

Pipe’s bikes over the years have included, to name a few, a Honda CB750 hardtail chop, a Kawasaki Z650, a Z1000ST, a Harley Fat Boy, and he currently rides a 1980 Harley Shovelhead Road Glide.
